Now, Cuba is in the eyes of the world because its transition process as a country, from a lot of years of dictatorship to the beginning of freedom, even tough Cubans still have a lot to do, and changes will not be made from one day to another, there are people who have been fighting to make a voice since years ago, in times when hope was not an option. We can’t talk about Cuban fighters for the human rights without saying the name Yoani Sanchez, this amazing woman belongs to what she calls, the Y Generation, she is in the forties, and when she was born it was really common to name kids with names beginning with the letter Y, as Yoeli, Yoani, Yoana. This is the reason, she named it generation Y. She was a professor and a writer, she started to make articles in clandestine newspapers, then decided to start a blog. This blog became really famous because she found the way not to been shut down, and people outside Cuba living around the globe could read what was going on in Cuba. She had a mission to connect Cuban families and friends from Cuba to the rest of the world. She started to receive emails from people who were wondering how his or her old house was, we are talking about people who escaped from Cuba 30 or maybe 50 years ago, and didn’t come back, people who wanted to see pictures of their schools, parks, to remembered how their childhood were , or maybe to connect with an old friend. We think this is a normal situation, to take a picture, to send an email, etc. But in Cuba Internet wasn’t free, and all of these were illegal.
Yoanni was in jail several times because what she was writing to the world, and also, was expatriated from Cuba, she was forced to move to Europe. Nowadays, she is living in Cuba, she returned illegally and disappear her passport. She continues to fight for her island until the end of times.
